The course Discussions provides a public environment where participants communicate in an asynchronous fashion. |
| 1. | From the page, click on the Discussions icon.
The window to the right will appear. |
| 2. | Click on the Main link and you will see the messages, as below.

| 3. | Click on the posting "Welcome"; a new window will pop up. Read the message and then press . |  |
| 4. | Now click on the "Please introduce yourself" posting. Read the message and click on the button. A new window will open up. |

| 5. | In the blank space provided, introduce yourself to your instructor and other class members. Write four or five sentences. Topics of interest might be the motivation for taking this course, vocational and recreational interests, previous computer experience, and other courses currently enrolled. |

| 9. | Read the postings of several other students. Notice in the example to the right how the postings are 'nested' or 'threaded'. Postings #96 and #97 are in response to posting #74; posting #385 is in response to posting #96. A message series posted in reply to the same subject is called a thread. |
| 10. | Respond to at least one student's posting by clicking on the posting, reading it, then clicking on the button and typing your response. Activity Pts=1 |
| 11. | Clicking on will show any newly arrived postings and make the ones you have opened disappear from view. [Sometimes, particularly in a lab situation, there may be a delay in updating and you may have to click on again.] To see all of the messages that have been posted to this discussion, click on Show All. |

When you are ready to do WebCT Activity #4
- If you have a printed booklet, click on the
link (in the upper one-third of the screen), then turn the page in booklet to WebCT Activity #4. (As you have seen, the WebCT Activities in the booklet are also online, but it may be easier to do them from the printed booklet.)
- If you do not have a printed booklet, click on WebCT's
link (in the Action Menu) to go forward to WebCT Activity #4.
